Bits and pieces of Mauritius

In the meantime I got married (more on that a bit later) and we went to Mauritius for our honeymoon. We had an absolute blast. I must confess, I totally underestimated this country and thought it was just a run-of-the-mill touristy destination. To my surprise, it was such a wonderful, rich and truly exotic destination that I have thoughts of going back one day to explore the island a bit more. It is really not that expensive to travel in Mauritius (if you stay out of the resorts and do it like the locals). I hope you like the snippets of this amazing destination.

This photo is my favourite of this collection. I remember the absolute bliss of sticking my toes in the water and just enjoying the view. My Sony Cybershot TX5 is waterproof and we had so much fun making underwater videos and taking these shots. It does feel a bit weird sticking a piece of electronic equipment in the water, though.

We hired a scooter for a few days (an absolute steal at R175 per day, no deposit, no strings attached) and explored the northern and eastern parts of the island. So much fun!

Chinatown, Port Louis. The smells and sounds and textures are absolutely mind-blowing.

The view from our room.

Beautiful textures of dresses in a shop in Goodlands.

A Hindu temple in Goodlands.

Feeling a bit under the weather - at home with a terrible cold - but looking forward to the wedding photos and the "new normal" with my lovely husband.
