Kerkorrel se SnorCity...Pretoria in my hart

11.28.2010

We've stumbled across this amazing video, "a tale of three cities". This is awesome. It captures the spirit of Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town in such a beautiful way. By three very talented South African artists and Bittereinder.
Enjoy.

Confession #342

11.22.2010

When I grow up, I want to be a barista.
I would love to own a big, beautiful coffee machine (I don't know which one yet but it will surely be bigger than my Breville). I would make the most beautiful, elegant cappuccinos and produce espressos that have the perfect colour, consistency etc. I would make the most amazing, delightful froth (and not burn it) and I would pour the most exquisite little floral pattens. (Obviously I don't know what I'm talking about but hey, one can always dream).
In the meantime, I'll just take pictures of beautiful coffee machines and order coffee from Tribeca or Woollies.

I'm soooo excited! Finally, a pretty and stylish event is coming to the Capital! I saw this beautiful exhibition over at Love Made Me Do It and thought that it would be so nice if we had something similar in Pretoria. Then, on my way to work on Thursday, I saw the posters! Yay!! Can't wait.
Please visit Kamersvol for more info. Tickets are R40.00 at Computicket.

The party in the workshop

11.08.2010

The awesome guys from Raw Studios had the "seven year itch" party in their workshop this weekend. I was lucky enough to be on the guest list (probably because my fiancée works there). Great food, amazing company, lots of crazy dance moves
Here are some highlights:

What is a Pretoria party without a cool box? (Or what is a Pretoria cool box without a party?) Luckily this one had some character:

The decor and lighting was pretty...

Thanks guys, we had a blast!

What I love about living here

11.03.2010

This is the list. It will most probably change and expand, but let's start with this...
  • The way the city glows after a perfect African thunderstorm.
  • Saturday morning coffee at Tribeca (Hopefully they will update their site soon)
Awesome coffee. Photo by Riette Basson
  • Walking to the corner cafe instead of taking the car.
  • Sunnyside street fashion (more about that later)
  • Cafe Riche on Church Square. Amazing space with a rich history.
  • Skyscraping - a new-found adventure where we try to access rooftops of tall buildings. Amazing vantage points.

  • Walking the dogs in the local park.

  • Toni's Pizza. According to me, the best in the world. Go and see for yourself.
  • Discovering hidden gems in the city: Beautiful International style buildings, details, history, people.

  • Off-the-beaten-track and Vintage shops like Bell Bottoms in Pierneef Street.
  • Food markets. Hazelwood food market and the old favourite, Die Boeremark.
  • The mild winters we have here.
The list goes on and on. But this is me for tonight. Why do you love living here? Send some ideas and comments.

It's been a while.

Okay, okay! So I'm guilty. I never actually started this blog. And guilt has conquered me. Let's start again with something appropriate...

...the Capital's beautiful Jacaranda trees. Every October, a large part of the city (excluding Mordor) is covered in a purple haze. It is breathtakingly beautiful, especially early in the morning when there is a purple carpet on the streets. October has ended, and it saddens me to see the purple go. Oh well, there's always next year...
